WELL-Defined

Chakra is a Sanskrit term used in yoga, meditation and Ayurveda that refers to spiritual energy centers in the body. There are seven chakras along the spine, beginning at the base and ending at the crown of the head, and they each correspond to specific organs. When the chakras are aligned, prana flows freely through them and when they become blocked, it can lead to physical, mental and emotional issues.

The Fine Print

The seven chakras, starting at the base of the spine, are known as the root (base of spine), sacra (lower abdomen)l, solar plexus (upper abdomen), heart (center of chest), throat, third eye (forehead) and crown (top of the head). If you have a high blood pressure or a history of cardiovascular issues, consult your doctor before beginning a breathwork practice.

Where We Come In

Feeling anxious? Your root chakra (Muladhara) could be blocked. Stomach ache? That might be your third chakra (Manipura). Yoga, meditation, reiki and breathwork practices like pranayama can all be used to keep chakras open and aligned.
